While You Lay Sleeping

There was a light coming in through the curtains. Curious, she moved to the window. Drawing the material aside, she saw it was only the moon's face reflecting against the mounds of snow. A sigh, and she went back to the comfort of her bed. She drew the silk coverlet around her, the one she had carried back from her last trip to India. The colors had fascinated her and looking at it now, she realized it was like the moon's reflection - a subtle blend of light and shadow.

As she lay back against the soft pillows, her mind wandered. And as it wandered, it went once more to the place where it would always go in her waking dreams. She followed it gladly, anxious to begin.

He was waiting for her, his arms reached out for her and she joined him willingly. He caressed her hair, her cheek, his breath was warm on her lips. She followed his hand as it stroked her from breast to thigh. He took his time, touching every part of her, testing, teasing. At last his strongly muscled legs came between hers and he pushed against her, anxious to get in. Her breath came faster and faster, her back arched and she strained to take him to the place where they would both lose themselves, to become the we, not the I. The world stopped briefly and then flowed together as they filled each other with everything they had to give. She smelled the essence of his being, she felt the rough edge of his beard on her face, his manhood still filled her and she was glad to be alive.

Then slowly, surely, inevitably, her eyes opened. Alone upon her bed she drew her silk coverlet once more around her, and picked up her book so she could find her adventures in the words of another.
