Angels All Around

We not only live among men, but there are airy hosts, blessed spectators, sympathetic lookers-on, that see and know and appreciate our thoughts and feelings and acts.

~~ Henry Ward Beecher

Angels, since the beginning of civilization, have been part of our culture and daily vocabulary and seem to dwell in the realm that exists between fantasy and reality. For many, angels are the spirits of those who have gone before. Others consider them powerful intercessors from God. There are even those who believe each of us has an angelic presence as a personal spiritual guardian.

Then there are those who shrug their shoulders and mumble celestial quackery. For them, angels are simply a cute adornment that sits on top of the Christmas tree, or graces the cover of an address book.

I am of the belief that Angels are the spirits of those who have gone before. And that angels visit us regularly - sometimes as the true spirit of a specific individual, or soul, and sometimes as the combination of spirits, or souls, we need for the instant we need them.

So why do some of us recognize the angelic presence in our lives, and some of us dont? Maybe we all began life with an ability to see, and communicate, with angels and then we grew up.

Have you ever known a child who played with imaginary friends? Friends who had names, personalities and who even, on occasion, kept that child from harm? Most children seem to outgrow their friends - but is it possible they just shut them down because it was no longer acceptable behavior to believe in faeries, or ghosts, or playmates others cant see?

Adults who maintain this communication, or who find it again in later life, often say It is just a matter of listening.

In almost all interviews with adults and children who have Near Death Experiences, there is the presence of a figure, or figures, that lead and counsel. These angel figures calm the fears of those they visit, lessen the trauma and pain of near mortal injuries or disease, provide reassurance and show the path back to life.

Angels are all around us, touching us each in different ways and at different times. Have you ever wondered why you managed to sidestep a dangerous situation for the oddest reason, why a little voice inside of you led you to make a specific choice, or why the telephone rang when you felt especially low or just needed to talk?

For a few lucky people, angels come to them in dreams. Providing help and guidance, love and acceptance, they are the spirits who understand you better than anyone ever will. It is interesting to note that these individuals are most often the ones who cannot sleep during periods of great stress or after the loss of a loved one. Does there, despite the overwhelming evidence and past experiences, remain some tiny shred of doubt? Some, what if? What if he, or she, isnt there? Or if they are, what will I say? How will I feel? Will I hurt more? Will it make the loss more real? The truth is that it may take a while for a new soul to find their way to their loved ones dreams after all, this is all new for them too - but they eventually will and will continue to do so whenever they are needed. And when they do the experience will be one of great joy where you both will always know exactly what to say (assuming one of you stops talking enough to let the other one get a word in edge-wise that is).

Angels come in all sizes, shapes and colors, visible and invisible to the eye. You are forever changed from having seen one, or having been in the presence of one.

So the next time a warm breeze touches your cheek when no wind is blowing, remember an angel is nearby watching and guarding. The unexplained scent of roses, pine, or sandalwood in the air is a clue that an angel has passed by. Often times the appearance of an angel is accompanied by a heightened sense of brilliant colors - especially blues and greens. And when you fall asleep tonight, open your mind to the possibility that an angel may be waiting there to walk with you in your dreams.

Remember that angels come in many disguises. It seems they take whatever form the visited person is willing to accept; and sometimes no form at all - a dream, a thought, a surge of power, or a sense of guidance. What disguise does your Angel wear?
