I ALWAYS give the customer the change first. It's the way I would like it to be handed to me. Plus I count it out to them, to avoid making mistakes. And honestly, people do appreciate my efforts! You are so right on that one!!

then there are those who wait until they are served to make up their minds what they want. I once saw someone stop at the bottom of an escalator on the underground (as us British call the London subway) to get something out of a suitcase. And then complain when people kept pushing into her - like they had any choice. Oh - another hate - people who carry big cases through the underground during rush hour. Or even travel on the underground unless they know exactly what they are doing and where they are going. And don't get me started on people who stand on the left of the escalator (the convention in London is to stand on the right and walk on the left). And the good old days of counting out change by hand. I tried to explain the concept of "counting up" to someone - she couldn't get it. But then, she does have only one brain cell. When I worked in a store I would try to calculate the change in my head before the cash register told me.
